Mercury Opus was one of the largest FidoNet Bulletin Board Services (BBS) in Florida. Mercury Opus, based out of Tampa, Florida was created by Emery Mandel in 1988 and was active until 1996, when it finally succumbed to the Internet boom. During the BBS boom, Mercury Opus had over 600 active subscribers and was one of the largest FidoNet nodes in the region. Mercury Opus's local and echoed message boards were always very active and vibrant with participation.
From the September 1994 issue of Boardwatch Magazine:

Mercury Opus was one of Florida's largest and most influential Bulletin Board Systems. It was ahead of it's time in providing Internet access, both in it's ability to retrieve articles from Internet sites but also by providing it's customers with access to Internet e-mail accounts, using their logon names @ mercopus.com
It has been over 12 years since Mercury Opus went offline, but I've decided to bring back the domain name and install a message forum to see if any of the original members are still around. If they are, hopefully they can find us. If not, hopefully Mercury Opus will bring together a new breed of folks who enjoyed the open communications and camaraderie so enjoyed at the Original Mercury Opus.
If you are interested in having a free @mercopus.com e-mail address, please register on the forum and let us know.
